The Best Hotel Pattaya team passed a bar we had never been inside but had heard a lot about, the bar is known as Maxies Bar and it can be found in Soi 16 which is just off the main night life area in Pattaya, Walking St. You know you are there when you see the Devils Put and Iron X Core Bars, they are lit up and almost guide you to Maxies!
Maxies is all about what Pattaya used to be – it is an open air bar with windows looking out to the people walking through the streets, while the inside has 3 tall poles which are used by the girls to dance on and show there talents! The team at Best Hotel Pattaya really enjoyed this place because it seems Pattaya is getting less Beer Bars and far more GoGo’s and Nightclubs which are all well and good, but the old school beer bar is what Pattaya is all about.
The Best Hotel Pattaya are unknown to the owners, we have no reason to believe they treated us differently to any other customer and yet we still had perfect service, got given a few free drinks and really did have a great time! The girls are pleasant and speak rather good English, it was only when we played a game did we have to buy a lady drink and even then we found them to be very cheap and well worth the money.
Maxies Bar has a wide range of drinks available that come very cold, when you order a mixer you will find it comes very strong and after 4 or 5 you really will need to have a rest because they are so potent. The bar has no dress code which is nice for people who have just walked off the beach, the decor is decent enough for a beer bar and the stools and chair are very comfortable – which makes sense because they are hoping people stick around.
Music in Maxies can vary we found, when the boss was in they played lots of Western top 40 and some old school Elvis, Meatloaf and Bee Gees. Once the boss leaves the girls got to run the show and the RnB came on which we enjoyed but they also do sometimes put there Thai Songs on which sound nice enough, but you cant understand what they are about. Music is not so loud you can not have a good conversation, yet it is loud enough to be enjoyed.
Maxies Bar has plenty of games available including connect 4 and janga, for 10 baht punters can also play on the American Pool table which comes complete with all the balls, long ques and girls that are rather good and happy to bet you plenty of baht. Drinks are priced very well considering what other bars charge in the area! Thai Beers start at 65 baht while spirits start at 50 baht. Lady drinks are 100 baht all night which is damn cheap compared to what other bars charge.
While Maxies Bar does not serve food there are many stalls near by which do and they seem to be more then happy for you to bring it in and eat there. The Pizza Shop across the road is fantastic, we will be going back!
