People looking to relocate to Pattaya for 3-6 months will expect to pay about 20% over the long term rate, as long term is considered to be 1 year – it is advisable to book in low season as many hotels and apartments will give you low season rates through out the entire stay, this is though to be because they do not realize they have the opportunity to up the rates in the coming months.

It is impossible for a foreigner to buy property in Thailand, unless they are very rich and buy it through a company. This is because Thailand tries to protect its lands and jobs for the people of Thailand, they do not have many opportunities as it is, it would not be right for a western person to come in and take jobs that a hard working Thai person could do, it would also be wrong for western people to come in and buy land that could be valuable to the Thai people one day. The best option currently if you wish to own a house for a very long period is to find a Thai Partner, give them the money to buy it and you are able to lease it for $1 every 10 to 30 years.

Electric Bill’s / Water Bill’s In Pattaya

Common Utilities are very cheap as is everything else in Pattaya, water generally comes in at 100 baht for most people as it can not be drank, and is only used for showers! Electricity is charged at 7 baht per unit usually, and most people I have spoke to and I personally have found bills would usually come in at around 2500 baht every quarter, Optional extras can of course be obtained, Internet for example is usually offered free by most decent apartment blocks – it will usually be slowed the you will in most cases be welcomed to install your own ADSL Line. ADSL is usually about 1000 baht per month and line rental would usually be about 500 baht. Cable TV is available, depending on the package chosen can cost 300baht to 1000 baht every month – again, most hotels will usually offer this as a complimentary service.

Bills can be paid at post office;s across Thailand and there are a number of office’s located in Pattaya that are very easy to access.

Food / Eating In Pattaya

Pattaya like all of Thailand can cost how ever much you wish when it comes to food – there are many food carts which roams that streets that are very popular with the local Thai people. Food Carts will often have fruit, cooking chicken or cooking beef and an assortment of sides to go with it. While the food on these carts is known to cause tourists some stomach issues are eating, once you have become accustomed to it, it is very enjoyable to eat and goes down with out a problem! These meals can cost as little as 10baht and would fill 2 people up easily!

There are a number of small, Thai owned restaurants in Pattaya that offer fantastic local Thai food, and many will attempt to make an assortment of western food. Best Hotel Pattaya has found that most Thai Restaurants can make fantastic bacon and eggs, while other meals seem to be rather difficult for them! These Restaurants will often have meals that cost anywhere from 50baht to 200 baht depending on your choice, they will always have a wide assortment of drinks that will cost anywhere from 10 to 20 baht and a number of beers that cost anywhere from 50-100baht.

Most Resorts have high end Restaurants often with English speaking staff, these restaurants can cost in excess of 1000 baht per person and are usually only used by tourists wanting to have some food they are used to after many days of eating Thai. These restaurants are usually not enjoyed by tourists or the locals as the food is never the same quality you find on the street and in the local restaurants. Overall, it is very easy and possible for a person to spend as little as 500 baht every week on food.

Bringing The Family

If you are looking at bringing your entire family to Pattaya, wife, kids, the dog – then you should think long and hard if Pattaya really is the best destination! Pattaya is known for having many temptations that can get to the best of men, living here full time could be a very hard burden to bear! If you are persistent on coming to Pattaya, there is a range of excellent Private Schools available at a number of price’s. With the appropriate visa children may be welcomed into a Thai Public School, although this would not be recommended.

Private Schools in Pattaya would usually start at about 45000 baht per semester, and upwards of 100 000 baht per semester, you would expect these Schools to have western teachers with excellent degree’s, superior equipment and grounds that appear to be along from a resort and this is all given at every private school in Pattaya! It is also good to note that going to an international school looks good on any resume and can be used to gain great ground for future employment. Bangkok also offers some fantastic private schools, many of which have week boarding and with Pattaya been only 1 hour away, there is no issue in the child coming home to visit!

Bureaucracy

Thailand is a country that seems to make it harder and harder for younger people to relocate or move here, it may be easy the first time with a Educational Visa although after that it seems you need to almost start a business or leave every 60 days to renew a tourist visa. It would appear that the staff in the Government Departments follow ever letter and policy to the dot, although it should be remembered that in most cases speaking to a senior person and offering some good faith will usually help your cause!

Thai people will also like to see that you have plenty of money, as that will improve your chances because they know you have no need to work and are here to spend your money and enjoy it in Thailand. When speaking to the staff, you must ensure to smile, speak politely and if they say something you do not like, you must ensure that you remain claim and do not get angry, this will nearly also hurt your chances with any visa application. If you are applying from your home country, be sure to read each question carefully and do not use words which would be uncommon to the Thai people as it would make the job harder for them, be sure to explain that you love Thailand and wish to spend your money there, that you have saved hard for.

Thai Embassy

You must also remember to go to this place to register, these people can be very hard to deal with but it is best to make sure they are totally with you in every way, so be polite and do anything they ask! It might be an idea to bow.

  • - Ensure You Have EVERY Document That You Need
  • - Do Not, I Repeat – DO NOT GET ANGRY
  • - Make sure that you Speak VERY VERY politely
  • - Keep a nice big smile, make a little eye contact but not constant
