Money is obviously something that comes up in a place like Pattaya, and having an understand of the local currency will be an important factor to insuring you have a relaxing and enjoyable Holiday! All the Thai Note’s are printed on paper, and have pictures of the Royal Family. First and foremost, it is important to ensure you treat the money with respect. If you loose your money, remain calm and look for it calmly, if you see your money blowing in the wind it is important to run after it and catch it with your hands – Do not step on the money with your foot, this can be seen as a grave insult to the Thai Royal Family, and to Thai people in general.

The symbol used for dollar in Thailand is “฿“, the currency is known as Baht and there are 6 different note’s which can be found.

There are a number of coins that can be found in Thailand, some of these are worth a certain amount of “Baht” will others are worth a “Satang”, 100 Satangs would equal 1 Baht.

You will find that a Satang is best kept to give as a tip to the cleaning lady. Satangs can also at times be useful for the local Pattaya Bus, although this would be more for Expats rather then a tourist. Satangs are considered rather worthless by most people, can are often left in stores or just put on the street for someone to find.

ATM’s In Pattaya

ATM’s are everywhere in Pattaya, one would never have an issue finding them! Some important facts to remember though, most ATM’s will have a 10,000 limit per card per day, and your bank at home may also have a limit for overseas transactions! Check with the local bank in regards to this! There are also many reports by tourists having their cards locked by the bank them self, many people will go overseas and not inform their bank, when the bank See’s charges happening on the card in a location the person would not usually be at they will cut the card off in case it is an un-authoerized use.

ATM’s In Thailand will usually charge 150 baht to withdraw money from an international ATM, this does not include any charges your bank may impose on you! Again, this is best checked with your local bank to ensure you are getting the absolute best deal! Many of the large bank chains in Thailand offer ATM’s with all the latest Anti-Theft Devices, so you are as safe as possible when withdrawing money in Thailand.

EFTPOS Is also readily available in Thailand, been a major option for most people when checking out of a hotel. EFTPOS currently works the same way for most people as it would at home, there is no international charge and only the small charge on your banks end. Very few bars offer these facilities, so for the most part you will not be able to do this for your night time drinking sessions.

Exchanging money in Pattaya is a fairly simple task, weather you have cash from your home land or are using travelers cheque’s there is a myriad of places to change money over! Depending on the amount you wish to change to Thai Baht, you may feel comfortable enough to change the money at a Street Vendor, the the amount you are going to change is quite substantial, it would probably be advisable to go into a bank and change it over the counter.

Banks in Pattaya always have security on duty, they are usually very quick and efficient (unlike their western counter parts), and the service is usually of a fairly high standard.
